San Diego is well known for having a plethora of site seeing locations, great food, beautiful architecture, great beaches, and a fun nightlife. But if you’re a fan of golf, or play yourself, then you might be counting down the days until the Torrey Pines Golf Tournament that takes place in January.
This gorgeous piece of landscape is located off the coastal cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean and is most known as the premier 36-hole municipal golf course owned and operated by the city of San Diego. The course was built during World War II and has hosted the Farmers Insurance Open on the PGA Tour in the late 1960s. But the golf site’s most recent memorable moment was during the U.S. Open Championship in 2008 when Tiger Woods performed under what audience called “brutal conditions,” with a broken leg and torn ACL against Rocco Mediate in a 19-hole playoff. Tiger rose above in his crippling state and defeated Rocco in a sudden death playoff on the 91st hole. This year’s tour will also feature defending champion Jason Day as well as Justin Rose, John Rahm, and San Diego native Xanader Schauffele, just to name a few. And you never know Tiger might want to surprise everyone and pop in.
So whether you’re a local or traveling from afar to be part of this event, you might be wondering where the best place to stay is? Look no further than The Shoal La Jolla Beach in beautiful La Jolla. This hidden gem is only 7 miles away from the Torrey Pines Golf Course and has a variety of surroundings that will keep you entertained well before and after the games.
